When sexting is all we can do: Hookups in the time of COVID-19

The world changed in early 2020. With the spread of the COVID-19 virus, life came to a standstill in many ways – orders to shelter in place, social distancing measures and self-isolation recommendations turned the way we live upside down. These measures, essential to preventing a further spread of the virus, also affected our ability to get it on. So, what is there for us to do?

The term ‘sexting’ may sound a bit juvenile to you, so call it what you like – sex chat, hookup chat or long-distance hookups – but what it comes down to is creating a way to explore our sexuality and feel good without physical contact. This applies to all genders, sexualities and interests, so get your gay, kink or whatever you want on with chats!

Sending photos or chatting, phone calls or letters: no matter how you do it, sex chat is beneficial for you. You can use this to connect with a partner outside the bedroom, heating things up for later, or, in the case of current times, you can use it as a substitute for in-person hookups you would normally engage in. Luckily, we live in a time where apps can be downloaded and connections made in moments.

Maybe you’ve been wanting to test out a control fantasy or roleplay. By using chat, you can dip your toes in the water and get a feel for what you’re really wanting. Remember that good sexting is just like good sex – communication is key. This article by Bustle has some key tips on communication, whether you’re sexting someone you’ve physically been with or someone you’ve just started chatting with.

While you’re doing the responsible thing by staying indoors, sign up for The PRSNLS and get down in an equally responsible way. Find people who are into the same things you are, start an anonymous chat, move things along and who knows – maybe you can put your words into actions when this is all over.
